Overview

Build and host documentation sites on Hep.gg: a workspace with a file tree, an MDX editor and a live preview, a component kit, a free address, custom domains, and an AI editing API.

Build and host your own documentation site on Hep.gg. Write in Markdown or MDX, use our component kit (admonitions, cards, API reference blocks, tabs, steps, and more), watch a live preview update as you type, and publish to your free yourname.docs.hep.gg address or your own domain. You can build a site by hand in the workspace, or hand a key to your AI assistant and have it generate the whole thing.

Creating a site

Open Docs in the dashboard and click New site. Give it a name (your address is previewed as you type) and pick a template: Blank, Product docs, API reference, or Knowledge base. Each template is a complete, ready-to-edit site, so you start from working pages instead of an empty page. If you already have Markdown, choose Import a zip instead.

You land in the workspace with your first doc open and the preview beside it. A short Get live checklist in the corner takes you from first edit to a published site in a few minutes: edit a doc, pick a color, publish.

The workspace

One screen, three panes, like a code editor:

  • Explorer on the left: your docs and folders, in the same order as your published sidebar. Create, rename, drag to reorder, drop a doc onto another to nest it, and delete with undo.
  • Editor in the middle: tabs for the docs you have open, a small properties form (title, URL, description, draft), a toolbar, and the MDX editor with component completion and inline error markers.
  • Preview on the right: your real site, rendered from what you are typing, before you save. Switch between desktop and mobile widths.

Everything else lives in one Settings panel (the gear in the top bar): identity, appearance, publishing, and an Advanced section for the rest.

Tiers

Free sites get 2 sites, a free docs.hep.gg address, the full free component kit, and a small "Powered by Hep.gg" footer. Hep.gg Prime raises you to 10 sites (with stackable extra slots), removes the footer, and unlocks custom domains, full theming with custom CSS, site search, and the premium component set. Everything you write stays portable: export any site as a zip whenever you like.
